Microsoft have recently totally re-vamped the .NETMF website. In a major and long over due refresh Microsoft have hinted that the IoT (Internet of Things) will be a big part of the overall eco system approach. Add to that the recent comments by Mr. Nadella about the world of Windows 10 and how it will be a platform spanning many devices, then put two and two together, sprinkle with developer dust and you may come up with a good idea of the future.
GHI Electronics have announced some changes to their line up of Gadgeteer modules and given a few hints at the future for .Net Micro Framework.

This is just to show how the electric imp device can be used as wifi relay for sending sensor data to the cloud. I am currently using Xively, but planning to find somewhere else.
